Apple Pay, "Hold near reader", what should I replace?

Hi there, just recently I had run into issues with Apple Pay on my first gen SE where it’s no longer recognizing terminals and saying "Hold near reader”. I suspect it’s a hardware issue just due to the fact on how it stopped working. I’ve read some posts already on this site but am unclear on what I should get repaired.

I had my power button replaced due to that being damaged so maybe check the flex cable? Can that be replaced?

Would the NFC chip need replaced? CAN it be replaced? Actually, can it be upgraded too? :o

thanks!

Answer this question I have this problem too

The NFC conductor wire is part of the power button flex, check if that is missing, broken, or screws and contact clips on both ends are loose/misplaced.

You can’t replace the NFC chip as it is security/payment related. If Apple were to allow it to happen, Apple Pay credit card fraud would be all over the place.

Thanks for the info, I’ll take a look at what you suggest. If that is the cause is there anything else I should be checking for?

I assumed that about the chip it self but I thought I’d ask, thanks!
