iPhone XS not charging

Hi everyone

I have an iPhone XS (A2097) that is not charging and is not being recognised by the computer when I plug it in. The phone still comes on and work as normal, it just will not charge. I used a new charging port and it still did not charge so it is not the port. I plugged the iPhone to charge and tested the battery connecter, however, it is only reading about 0,5V.

The problem occurred just after I updated it to iOS 14.6. The phone got extremely hot during the update. After the update, the charging icon displayed, however, the battery percentage kept dropping.

I have tried many different cables and it still does not charge and iTunes does not pick up the iPhone.

The board it also not heating up so it is hard to find a short. Plus, since the motherboard is a sandwich board, once I desolder them apart, it will be even harder to find the short.

Any advise on what could be the problem or what chip could be shorted or what I should look for?

Thanks a lot everyone!

My guess would maybe be related to TriStar/Hydra. They’re essentially the same chip just different names. TriStar is a USB validator and when that is damaged (usually due to cheap non-MFI certified accessories) it can lead to issues like this. You can use a TriStar tester to help diagnose this issue.

Do you think it was the update? I see that many people are having the same problem after updating (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252...)

I use all of Apple's charging blocks and cables

interesting. and a computer won't detect it even if it's powered on? Have you tried wireless charging as well?

by

Yes, not even when powered on. I have not tried wireless charging because the charger is too expensive

@nash99 you can usually pick up one from belkin for like $20. It'll be safe to use as they're MFI certified. Or you could use a friends if they have one. I use the wireless chargers I kept from when I had a note 8 with my iPhone.

I think before I buy one I will take my phone to some shop that sell them and ask them to demo it using my phone
