@sandysnow1 what is the exact model number for your washer?

I am in for the answer to this as well. I have the same problem. Softener stays in tray during cycle and doesnt seem like it gets any water (not diluted at all end of cycle). Things I have checked or done:

1.) cleaned tray and compartments thoroughly

2. ) checked and clean inlet water screens

3.) ran diagnostics by pushing spin/cycle buttton and power but at same time and ensure the 3 water solenoids are working

4.) checked solenoids with ohmmeter and verified continuity

5.) ran diagnostics via phone app and came out fine as well

One oddity is that when you take the top off and look at dispenser housing the 3 hoses coming in are lableled as “main wash'“ “pre wash” “bleach” but there isn’t a 4th one labeled softener so I got to think that one of those 3 is supposed to put water into the softener tray too, but which on? If it comes into the “prewash” inlet, how is that supposed to divert to prewash or softener if there is no mechanical method?

Same model and the same exact issue. However, this issue happens intermittently from load to load. Sometimes the fabric softener would be fully dispensed, other times it wouldn't.

Hi @sandysnow1 ,

Try running the diagnostics for the washer and check for any error codes. The error code meanings are on the pages following the linked page

Does it take a long time to fill when using the cold water only? Just wondering that if it does, there may be a problem with the cold water inlet valve. The water supply from this valve also passes through the softener dispenser. The supplier linked is an example only to show where the valve is located, how much it may cost to replace if faulty and the manufacturer’s part number.

If it is the problem search online using the manufacturer’s part number only to get results for suppliers that may suit you better.

Cleaning is required. Remove the tray and note the arrangement of trays, remove each tray and clean thoroughly.

especially in the round tube fillers. The cap covering these can be gummed up. dilute softener as it is quite thick

I have done all these things including diluting the softener. Still a problem.

Have you checked the screens where the hose bib connects to the washer . they should have a plastic tab to pull them out. mine had a second finer screen behind.

Everything is perfectly clean.

IMHO, water supply does not work. Either it is a manufacturing defect or some pipe is pinched somewhere. But I don't know where.

Thanks for posting that. Though my model is a bit different and it wasn't visually dirty in the dispensing area it did inspire me to take it all apart anyway. I ended up taking off the top, pulling all the tubes off the dispenser box. I then dis assembled the dispenser box system as much I I could, cleaned, scrubbed and blew out all nooks, crannies and orfices I could find with my air compressor. I re-assembled everything and tired small load cycled and lo and behold, the softener worked.

On thing I did learn but cleaning and flushing everything that the softener dispenser on my model is fed via both main wash and pre-wash inlets into the dispenser box. Though I didn't see anything get dislodged I am guessing I had a plug or partially plugged area in the dispenser internal tubing that was disrupting the water distribution.

I hope this helps someone else!

https://youtu.be/43gLRQuDfsA Finally solved problem by using this YouTube video. Using the interdental brush to clean the water dispenser hole was the trick. So glad this worked and no major repair bill. Less then $10 for the bottle brush and the interdental brushes.

I was having the same issue with model #WM3670HWA, and after taking apart every piece of the machine, the tubing the filters and cleaning to make sure everything is working and put it back together. I believe it’s a defect with where the water tube is placed or it’s slowly moved forward the last couple of years during spin cycle shaking. Finally figured if I leave my detergent compartment drawer open 1 to 1.5 inches or 3.5 cm just where the edge meets the washer, it will now dispense my fabric softener every time and water doesn’t come out even when leaving the detergent drawer open a little.

I have the slightly larger 4670 model. I’m going to try your method and see if it works. Because this is such a common complaint with LG users, I suspect it’s a design flaw with all similar LG machines. Someone should start a class action to get lLG to remedy the problem. I never experienced this issue with my prior Whirlpool front loader.

my LG washer is doing the same thing, kind of. i'll add fabric softener in the softener slot, but after the load is finished, the softener slot will be filled with water with no more fabric softener in it. no matter what, there's ALWAYS water in that side? i don't understand. and then the water* pours out of the washer on to the floor if you have the door open with the detergent/softener drawer open.

Sorry to hear its not working, very frustrating, Its worked every time for my machine since I posted originally without water gushing out but I do only leave it open about 1 inch to 1.5 inches, and have medium to low water pressure in my area, so maybe why it works for my machine. Still a very common design flaw for this model. Hope you can figure out a solution for yours! 😊

I ended up fixing mine, it was actually the water inlet valve. For whatever reason it wasn't using the softener. I still don't know why exactly it wasn't working but changing the water inlet valve fixed it for me
