Why does my battery smell like nail varnish

I just got a new battery from ifixit and it smells like nail varnish. Is this bad?

It'll be the adhesive holding the wrapper on. Do you usually sniff batteries? 😂

no its the battery leaking when it smells like that

Open it up. Peel the wrapper back and see if there's any leakage. If there is take pics to post to ifixit.

I doubt it. I have had batteries smell like all sorts of things. For point of reference, a leaking lithium ion battery typically has a vaguely sweet or fruity smell.

If you’re concerned, give the battery a good physical inspection before installing it (wear some latex or nitrile gloves for protection). If it is leaking, you will likely see some sort of damage to the battery. Pay attention to corners in particular.

If your talking about lithium button cells they ALL give off an odour when opened now that they are in airtight child proof packaging & it is quiet strong. I open about 20 plus of these a week & I'm not enjoying being exposed to a substance that I cannot identify as of yet & it is not the glue.
