screen flex cable repair?

i think i know the answer to this, but i'm asking just in case there's a long shot answer out there.

is there a way to repair this?

Block Image

i don't know how it happened (it wasn't me, got it this way from a customer, but it does look like the cut/shear is pretty clean. i've seen how-to videos on repairing damaged/torn home button flex, which involves micro-soldering tools and skills, of which i have neither.

looking to see if anyone knows if this can be saved? and if they can point me to a vendor. or does this just go into the scrap bin?

Hello BC,

absolutely not. Here you are dealing with a bend of the path, dozens of electronic paths. It's just a Sisyphean job. Apart from the man-hour of the technician, buying a new, original screen will be much cheaper and faster.

it's just a case of the tapes breaking when opening the screen on models 7 and 8. It breaks very easily if one is inexperienced (every technician has broken such a tape at least once in their life :-) even me). Do not waste time looking for a person to submit it - you will not find anyone. Conclusion as above: it will be faster and cheaper to buy a new, original screen, move the Face.Time band and Home button and reprogram the screen to the system. Time is 20-30 minutes. Costs, depending on your location but rather cheap.

Thanks Bert,

this is for a 7 so the truetone reprogramming won't be necessary (although i did just purchase a JC V1SE recently). i've also upgraded my parts shopping from ebay to vendors like ifixit, mobilesentrix and injured gadgets so quality and consistency is definitely better.

Just backing up Bert here; yeah, that's toast, no saving it. You can get a good quality 7 screen cheap nowadays so don't even mess with it.

B C, I recently got a Qian Li iCopy so I'm curious about the advantages of the V1SE over the iCopy or vice versa. I went back and forth between the two for quite a while.

First thing I found was that the Qian Li software doesn't read the MtSN/Cover Board Number from the phone; instead it gives you the phone's serial number which isn't particularly helpful in restoring True Tone. I actually ended up downloading the JC software instead, and that told me the correct number. I later was able to verify it with 3uTools, which I haven't used before either.
