MacBook after cleaning wont turn on without adapter

Hello,

I decided to clean my MacBook since it was overheating etc. I cleaned the inside of it together with one fan. Changed the thermal paste on cpu for a new one. After assembly I found out that the computer won’t power on.. only by using adapter. Battery was working fine before. What could be the issue?

Update (05/12/24)

I thought it was working for a while, but probably some kind of bug, because when Im on windows through bootcamp it also shows me 92%

IDK what happened, but it went from this

to this

Block Image

When I unplug it from charger it dies.

Tried unplugging and plugging back the connectors that are going from battery to MOBO

but nothing..

I ran the diagnostics and its saying that It found no issues - reference code : ADP000

Update (05/13/24)

Bought a new battery with new ribbon cable and now it seems to work fine.

Probably a ribbon cable was damaged.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

@adamskrobak - Well not good😫

Your battery is over the 1k of charging cycles so it was on fumes! That’s why the health score is Poor.

Independent of that you may have a logic board issue with the charging logic. Let’s see if we get any errors running the onboard diagnostics, restart the system and the. Press the D key just after the system restarts to enter into diags, let us know if you get any errors and what they are.

I was thinking about getting the mobo out of the shell again and try to go step by step. Can I contact you somewhere?

@adamskrobak - At this point it’s a bit of a gamble. So diags eliminated most of the other deeper issues, it still has its limits and sadly it can’t test the charging logic.

So… You need to find someone locally who can fix your logic board and replace the battery. You could replace the battery your self, but then yo still need to fix the logic board, which is not that big a deal if you have the needed tools, skills and access to the needed parts.

Where do you live? Country and nearest major city.

@danj i took it apart gently and putted it all together and now it’s saying that there is no battery inside🤷🏻‍♂️ I live in Czech Republic Prague

by

@danj So I replaced the battery, but Im struggling to put the ribbon cable inside. Even though it seems like the same size as the older one Im unable to fully lock it in... any tips?

Let’s get a better view on things install this gem of an app CoconutBattery it will allow you to see more clearly what’s the battery and charging logic is doing. Post a snapshot of the main window here so we can see what’s up!

Update (05/12/24)

Well that may not be as bad! While the battery still needs replacement, you maybe facing a simple problem with the charging logic! Review Steps 9 through 13 as the BMC cable could be damaged or the ZIF latches are not set to clamp on the ribbon cable. Double check the cable is properly inserted and the latches are set. If missing or damaged that could be an expensive repair, the cable can be easily replaced.

I think it might be a damaged cable. I checked everything and it should be fine. I decided to go to one shop here for buying new battery. Hopefully replacement is only thing that is needed. Found out that doing it myslel will save half of the price. Will keep you posted.

Should I first try to swapping the cable to check if the older one was faulty? Once I get the new battery?

by

@adamskrobak - The cable is the cheaper part, so I would first give that a try. You stated you are having problems with the connections can you post some pics so we can see the problem.
