Hi Stella,
First thing to do is make sure the charger is actually giving power to the phone. You can do this by trying a different charger and/or cord, or try your charger+cord on another phone to make sure it's working.
Once you know your charger works, it's time to check the charging port. Get yourself a flashlight and a magnifying glass and carefully check inside the port looking for anything in there that shouldn't be, like lint or dirt. Also check the condition of the pins on the connector to see if any of them are bent or broken. Bent ones can sometimes be straightened with some fine tip tweezers, but broken or missing pins mean you'll have to replace the port.
If everything looks good up to now, clean the port with some 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol, a toothpick and an eyeglass cloth. Give it a moment to dry then try the charger again.
If you still aren't charging, the next thing to try would be to replace the charging port. On your phone it's a fairly easy repair as far as phone repairs go; the charging port is mounted on a daughter card that can be purchased easily and cheaply. Here's the part you'd need; this one is on Amazon, but you'll find others to choose from on sites like eBay and AliExpress among others.

You'll have to use common sense to figure out what parts you don't actually have to take off, but with a little thought you should be able to figure it out. You could also use the guide specifically for that repair made by the Spanish site Nadie Me Llama Gallina. It is, of course, written in Spanish, but used with the Chrome browser's translation, it is quite usable and well done.

That's what I'd do if it was my phone; if you get through replacing the charging port and it still doesn't work then come on back and let us know what you did and what happened and we'll try to figure out what to do next.
