Black Screen Suddenly While Playing 3DS

I was playing Pokemon X in the friend safari when my screen suddenly went black. The blue power light was still on and I could still hear the music. The screen came back up but then went back out again. As I was holding the power button to turn it off I noticed the blue light was dimming in and out like it does when its sleeping. I did drop it recently but probably less than an inch or so since it slid out once the case hit the ground. It powered on soon after and I just now started to have problems since it happened less than 12 hours ago. I also recently installed homebrew onto it using the MSET9 method if that might be something to do with it. Anyone with experience know what I could possibly do?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hi Arielle!

Which screen is having issues? Both, or only the upper screen?

So in the beginning it came up after some time and later it was going to turn off again, right? It sound like the ribbon cable is loose or not fully in anymore. Could also be a damaged ribbon cable.

The best thing to do is to open it up and check the cables.

Good luck with the repair and let us know how it goes!

It was both screens. My system didn't turn off. The blue power light was still on when it happened. It was just going in and out, the same thing it does when I close the lid and have it in sleep mode. I turned it off myself holding the power button. It still turns on and functions normally. I'm actually playing on it as I type this out. I'm going to play with it some more and see if it does it again. I hope the things I did fixed the problem.

Hi Arielle! Alright! Could also be the sensor in this case. But, as long as you don't have issues with it rn, I would let it go for now. If the issue is returning, then it's for the best to open it up and check the cables if they've come loose. Otherwise it could be the sensor. Hopefully it will stay working from now on!

@dan0 I hope it does too. If I plan on selling that 3ds eventually I have to make sure it works.

Yeah need to be working if you are going to sell it. If it's fine for like a year, I think the issue will not come back again... So depends on when you are going to sell it!
