iPhone 8 boot looping while charging, otherwise shutdowning

Hello!

What's happening:

  • while charging, the phone boot loops and sometimes boots to iOS until it restarts again after ~3 seconds (during this time I can also see that my battery is reported to have 100% charge)
  • while not charging it "likes" to say shutdown, when trying to boot it up (or force restarting) it just shows the Apple logo and shutdowns again

What have I tired:

  • changing the power adapter and cable
  • checking and cleaning the charging port
  • tried wireless charging
  • restoring the phone

I am not sure if it's because of a faulty battery and would like to know any other possible solutions (or even problems) before changing it.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

This definitely sounds like a battery would be a good start, but we can check for a few clues before actually repairing if the phone will stay up for long enough to do so.

If the phone will actually boot (I couldn't tell from your description if it ever booted properly and stayed up) I would check two things: your battery health, and if there are any panic logs present. Battery health can be found in the battery section of settings. And kernel panic logs can be found in the analytics settings. You can use the iPhone Kernel Panics page to locate them and there is some info in interpreting them on the page as well, but if it comes to that, it might be better to post them here so we can have a look.

Yes the phone does boot, but it just boots to the lock screen and then shutdowns so I wouldn't have been able to check anything. However I think found a way so it wont shutoff while charging (it has to be plugged in to the wall while being actually fully charged, I guess it doesn't drain the battery anymore and just straight takes the charge from the outlet).

Those side notes beside, the battery health is reported as "service" while having 76% maximum capacity. Also there aren't any kernel panic logs

@vbxltkrqvu If the battery is reporting "Service" and it behaves better when plugged into wall power, that seems like a battery issue to me. You mentioned you already reset the phone?

If it's still happening then it definitely points to a hardware issue and if no kernel panics, sounds like the power is just getting pulled. Or at least not making panics when it crashes.

New battery sounds like it's in order.
