My Ethernet Connectivity Issue

For some reason my ethernet stopped working, I tried a new ethernet cable and different router and it was still not connecting. After further investigations about the problem, it seems that my laptop itself is the problem. It would only say "no connection" how do I fix it?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi @christianmamon

What is the status of the LAN network adapter shown in Device Manager?

Go to Device Manager - Network Adapters - right click on the LAN adapter entry - Properties - General - Device status box.

Does it say, "this device is working properly"?

To get to Device Manager in Win10/11 press the Win key and the x key (both together) and click on the Device Manager link.

If it is OK try resetting the TCP/IP stack and check if it works OK.

If there's a red cross next to the LAN adapter entry in Device Manager, right click the entry - Enable and check if it works OK.

If there's a yellow exclamation mark next to the LAN adapter entry in Device Manager, right click the entry - Update drivers and follow the prompts. You need to be online for this procedure to work. Try WiFi perhaps.

Hello! will this work the same with "no internet access" problem?

@christianmamon

Not sure what you mean.

The above is just checking if the LAN adapter on the motherboard is working OK so if it checks out OK and you have reset the network in the laptop, all you can do is try it and see.

Have you checked that there's no "bent" or missing pins in the Ethernet port on the laptop?

by

@jayeff I have, nothing is missing, though Im concerned that it keeps going back to identifying even if it connected earlier

@christianmamon

If the adapter status is OK and you have reset the TCP stack there's a problem on the motherboard as it isn't connecting to the router.
