Remove display - use as desktop?

Has anyone removed the screen successfully and used as a desktop (2021 m1 max MBP 16")? I have a couple external displays and think this would be the best use of the machine. Is it as simple as removing the screen/disconnecting the cables?

1.5 years later my $4k macbook display cracked and went dead on its own. I believe the cause was a design flaw but thats here nor there! Apple's policy is any screen damage is accidental and is a $1k repair. I don't feel great dumping that money into a machine that could spontaneously crack and has me generally weary to begin with (strange hardware scratching, kernal panics, etc.

Thanks!
Greg

Just use the system in Clamshell Mode basically, plug in your display, keyboard and mouse/trackpad leaving the lid closed. The system will sense the lid is closed. Disconnecting the display messes up SMC as it looses access to the sensors within the display which in turn effects the systems performance.

Yessss although then I have to purchase, speakers, keyboard, trackpad :).

@pessacake - Just the keyboard and mouse, remember you’ll loose performance! So I still think that’s the wiser direction,

Thank you! I'm gonna try the tear down and get halfway there if I decide to buy a display/a donor machine.
