My Amana refigerator/freezer is acting up. The refrigeration (top) works great, but the bottom freezer is no longer freezing. What causes this? How can we fix it?

What are the temperatures in each of the compartments?
Can you hear if the evaporator fan inside the freezer compartment is running? It will be operating as long as the compressor motor is running.
Try opening the freezer door and manually operating/releasing the door light switch to hear if the fan turns on and off.
If you can't hear the fan operating, this could be due to either a faulty fan, faulty fan power supply or perhaps the fan is iced over, stopping it from operating, due to defrost problem.
To check, remove the panel, inside at the back of the freezer compartment. Here's a video that in general may help.
If there is ice build up over the fan, evap unit etc., this could be due to a faulty defrost heater, faulty defrost timer, a faulty defrost thermostat or perhaps there's a blockage in the drain tube leading from under the evap unit to the evap pan under the compartments, near the compressor motor, preventing the defrost meltwater from draining away
