My Battery count is only 131 cycles

Hi,

I have a MacBook Air early 2015. I replaced the battery in in 2021 with one from Ifixit.

Recently my Mac has started to randomly shut down, somtimes it will run all day and at other times it will tunr off after a couple of hours..

The report in System shows the battery has 131 counts and is normal.

I ran Apple Diagnostics and the report shows :-

PPT004

The battery requires a service. The battery is not functioning normally but you may not notice a change in its behaviour or the amount of charge it holds. You can continue to use your battery before it’s checked without harming your computer.

I might also add that I have ran the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM tests.

I realise the battery is now a few years old but is it normal that with the low cycle count the battery would again need replacement?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

While cycle count is often used as a method of measure. It is not the only factor which effects the battery.

Sadly Apple doesn’t offer a good view on your battery’s health. I recommend using this gem of an App CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the Apps main window and post it here so we can see it. Then we can try to figure out what’s happening.

@knightal94303 - Well… This battery is so-so! While the cycle count is on the low side, the battery is not doing well given its health with 78% still left. Normally a battery with this few a number of cycles would be about 90~95%, as the battery is not being charged we can’t tell if the charging logic is working as intended.

I suspect this system is mostly AC powered most of the time and running some hard running stuff like rendering or game play or allowed to run low before charging again. Even still this battery should be in better shape only being three and a half years old.

Sadly, this battery will need replacing in the coming year. I would contact the iFixit store to see what they are willing to do to help you.
