Depends from the symptoms it's showing and the parts involved. At least here, a proper repair shop offers troubleshooting for a cost ranging from $30 to $50, that usually gets deducted from the final expenses, that cover the price of the spare parts plus VAT and labor fee.
By iFixit, I learned to do the labor myself or choose the right repair shop.

Brandon, this is a complex question:-) Depends whats broken, depends where you are located at. Just like Stefano Gigante says, here you can learn to fixit yourself. iFixit does not offer repairs or repair services, and in this forum you find mostly volunteers that are not connected to the ifixit corporation.
