Hi,

This is a very interesting question, one that defies an exact answer.

As the definition of a “novice” implies that the person is new to the task it has to take into account the ability to absorb information, manipulation and dexterity in using tools & equipment, understanding the process, foreseeing obstacles & potential damage caused by actions to name a few.

As I don’t know you or your abilities I can guesstimate the other side of 6 hrs.

It’s actually easier to answer the question “how long is a piece of string”

Now that I can definitely answer.

Hope this helps

Hi Helpful Harry,

I agree the term novice is vague, apologies. Maybe a better description would be a competent person, in electronic manufacture, so familiar with the considerations regarding safety to device and battery and having instructions to support understanding the work process and the necessary tools to do the work.

Or maybe, if you are familiar with dismantling and reassembling an iPhone or ideally iPhone 14, how long would you estimate it might take you to disassemble, remove all microphones and cameras, and reassemble please?

Kind regards

Rob

Thanks for clarifying that Rob, you can find time estimates for the 14 in the guides it’s a good reference point just add time for the removal and replacement of the associated parts tacked onto the guide time.

For me it would be about 1.5 hrs from go to whoa, without snags or interruptions.

This includes cleaning up seal surfaces and fitting new seal.

If you’re interested, the string is twice the length from one end to the middle, but you have to know how to use a tape measure.

@robbenwell - Why are you going to such lengths? Rarely do you need to fully dismantle a phone to other device to repair it.

How about watching a few YouTubes of people doing the given task and just focus on that repair alone if you are trying to learn how to repair.

@decadessen81812 - Have you read about String Theory? I wonder how long they are 🤣🤣
