iPad Unavailable Need Guidance

Hey all,

I am trying to help out a friend and get her mother's iPad going after not using it for 2 years. I have read the articles and tried them all with no luck. The iPad is showing 'iPad Unavailable' I have put it into recovery mode and it isn't being recognized in iTunes. I have used other cables. I can confirm it is in device manager. I have contacted Apple support and they want me to take it to a store. I really don't want to as there isn't one near me with in 2 hours. That and I am just trying to help out. I don't think they are the kind of people that would go to the store to have it fixed either.

My ultimate question it: Is there any way, at all, to completely reset this thing and re-set it up for her? Like most things, I assume there is that super secret code all field techs know to do and I want in on it. Thank you for any help and please remember that I'm just trying to help a friend. Thank you.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

You can put it in recovery mode by holding the power and home buttons until the screen goes black. then stop holding the power button and keep holding the home button until the iTunes screen appears. Do this while connected to a computer with iTunes. Then if you want more pass code attempts (only like 3) click update. if you don't know the password click restore and update. this will wipe the iPad. If you have find my iPad on you will be locked out unless you know the iCloud details. Hope this helps!

Thank you for the reply. I have had it in recovery mode and attached it to a PC with iTunes and it doesn't show up to be able to reset it. I'm wondering, what beyond that would an Apple support person do to reset it when all else fails to work?

There isn't anything more I can really add to help this along. Does anyone know what can be done?
