Security update 2025/01 continues to fail because previous update fail

My G42 5G works ok but can't install the 2025/01 security update. It says"Download and installation" works, but when it comes to the "Optimizing apps" phase it says "update failed"

Connecting via ADB and searching through logcat shows that the update failed because "previous update failed". (I presume that refers to a previous attempt to install 2025/01, as 2024/12 showed no issues at the time)

I already tried:

  • clearing the Play Store cache
  • factory reset
  • udating in Safe Boot mode

Ideally I would like to roll back the OS to Android 14 before the 2025-01 update attempt, but I see no such option in the recovery menu.

Within the family we have two more G42 G5's and they installed 2025/01 and even 2025/02 without problems.

@hans22924 iFixit is more of a hardware repair forum. Yes, we do have a lot of software gurus on here as well but it is not the main focus of this forum. I would suggest you try the experts at places like this or even on here as well as many others.
