Acer Nitro 5 AN517-52

The Acer Nitro 5 is a budget gaming laptop that usually starts at around 800 USD. With its ability to run modern games with stable performance, it truly is an anomaly, especially in today’s gaming laptop market where gaming laptops are getting more expensive by the day. That isn’t to say it hasn’t had its fair share of critics and problems, such as overheating issues and its struggles to keep up with newer game releases. Regardless, for a laptop that was released in 2017, it has made its way through 7+ years of competitors and is still known to be one of the better budget gaming laptops in the industry.

Beginning in 2017, the laptop was released with AMD's 7th-generation A-series FX, A12, or A10 APUs paired with a Radeon RX550 GPU and Intel's Core i5 or Core i7 processors paired with an NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti graphics card. Since then, newer models of the laptop have been released with more up-to-date graphics cards and processors, including the Intel Core i9 and newer NVIDIA RTX and AMD graphics cards.

Released in 2020, the Acer Nitro 5 AN517-52 was a more recent model that included several features and enhancements over the previous generations, like the introduction of the ‘Quad Exhaust’ cooling system consisting of vents for the cooling fans on each side of the laptop to deal with the overheating issues. Graphic cards ranging in price from the relatively newer NVIDIA RTXs like the RTX 2060 to the NVIDIA GTX 1650, which is still a highly rated and powerful graphic card. A 17-inch IPS monitor with the options of 60, 120, and 144 Hz is also featured.

To identify this laptop, you will see the ‘Acer’ logo, basically just ‘acer’ in lower caps, imprinted at the back of the laptop. The logo can also be spotted at the bottom of the screen when the lid has been opened. The words ‘N I T R O’ can also be seen written in red, slightly below the logo at the bottom of the screen where the monitor and laptop body are connected. The laptop is usually all black with red painted keys on the keyboard.

A white label at the bottom of the laptop, together with 12 screws securing the laptop case covering the internal components, contains the product number, serial number, bar code, and model type. Vents for the laptop fan can be found all around the sides of the laptop, along with 3 USB ports total, 1 type-C port, and 1 HDMI port.

This model differs from the AN515 series primarily in that the monitor is slightly larger, measuring 17 inches instead of the standard 15".
