Background and Identification
The third generation of the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon was released in 2015. The display cover is largely made of carbon fiber meshed with glass fiber, and the hinges were reinforced with carbon fiber as well. This was fairly unique at the time. Lenovo chose to use carbon fiber for two reasons: it is strong and durable, but also very lightweight. This means that the X1 Carbon 3rd generation is very portable, but also sturdy. Lenovo advertised that it had been tested ‘to military specifications’ against dust, extreme temperatures, water, altitude, and several other criteria.
The Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 3rd gen was generally well received by critics at its release. It improves on a few features of the generations before it, including a longer lasting battery life and a more comfortable and easy to use keyboard.
This model can be identified by the Thinkpad logo in the bottom right corner of the keyboard. It has mouse buttons under the touchpad, and not above it, as some earlier models do. It also doesn’t have an SD card slot on the side of the computer.
