FAQs
Our Teardown found that you need a Phillips #1 (PH1) for the back cover screws and a Phillips #0 (PH0) for the internal screws. You'll also want to use opening picks to unclip the back cover. Note: Despite the standards, Phillips screwdrivers can vary in size and shape—two drivers labeled as the same size may fit differently in the same screw. Use the size that fits the snuggest into the screw head.
You will need a Torx 6 (T6) screwdriver to remove the screws securing the Steam Deck OLED's back cover and internals. You can also use a Torx Security (TR6) screwdriver to remove standard Torx screws. You'll also want to use opening picks to unclip the back cover.
The tip of the Torx Security (we call it a TR#) screw head has a small hole in the center which differs from a standard Torx screw head (we call it a T#). Torx Security screwdrivers can fit standard and security Torx screws.
