Unable To Hold Battery Charge
Your laptop will not turn on or it will not boot up for use.
Faulty Charging Adapter
When you plug in your laptop make, sure the light turns on that the laptop is plugged in, and check to see if it says your laptop is charging. If it is plugged in and the light doesn’t turn on and the battery isn’t charging; this means you may have a faulty charging adapter, faulty charging cable, debris in the charging port, or a bad wall outlet. Inspect the charging port to ensure that lint or other debris are not obstructing the connection. If the charging port is free of debris, try using a different wall outlet, and if you have one, a different charging cable. If none of these techniques work, either your charging adapter or the battery is at fault. See the next trouble shooting guide for determining if you have a faulty battery.
Faulty Battery
Most phone and laptop batteries have a life-span of about 2 to 3 years depending on several factors. If your device is older than 2-3 years, you may be experiencing some of the side effects of a worn-out battery. Batteries begin to discharge quicker than normal and do not hold the same amount of charge as they deteriorate. In more extreme instances, devices with worn out batteries will only be able to operate with a charging cable connected at all times. If you experience your laptop running out of battery quickly, you will need to replace your battery. To help replace your battery, follow this guide.
Keyboard/ Trackpad Unresponsive
Your laptop will not allow you to move your cursor or type anything.
Unresponsive Keyboard
Keyboards become faulty for a few reasons. Most keyboard related issues are the result of inadvertent water damage. If you have spilled anything on your laptop, your keyboard will more than likely need to be replaced. Furthermore, depending on the amount of liquid spilled, and the kind of liquid spilled, the liquid damage could effect components on the motherboard. Check to see after the incident if any other functionalities of the laptop have been affected. If you do encounter other problems besides the keyboard, you will need to take your laptop to a repair store, as water damage repairs are not user-end. If the keyboard does not allow you to type anything, and water damage is not the source of the issue, the issue may be that some of the key switches, or the entire keyboard have become faulty. To replace your keyboard assembly, follow the instructions in this guide.
Unresponsive Trackpad
Similarly with the Keyboard, Trackpad issues are commonly a result of water damage. If you suspect that water or liquid contact is the cause of your problems, take your laptop to a repair store. After determining that water damage is not the cause, and if the trackpad does not allow you to move your cursor and is completely unresponsive, you can replace it with this guide.
Touchscreen Unresponsiveness
Your laptop will not allow touchscreen capabilities.
Common Ways to Fix your Touchscreen
- Restart the computer.
- Wipe off the display with a soft cloth, because there could be buildup on the screen that prevents your computer from recognizing your finger/stylus pen.
- Go to "Start" and in the search box type "Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input". Choose the top result. In this new screen click "Setup" and follow the instructions.
- Go to "Control Panel" and then "Device Manager". Select the "Monitors" section and right-click on your monitor. Check the information for the touch screen and make sure it is "enabled".
Faulty Display Assembly
If the touchscreen is completely unresponsive or there are visual defects in the screen (lines, discoloration, dark/dim spots, or completely off), and after trying the “Common Ways to Fix your Touchscreen”, the entire display assembly will need to be replaced in order to restore functionality. Follow this guide to replace your laptop’s display assembly.
Keys Popping Off Keyboard
The keys on your keyboard are coming off.
Common Issues With Keyboard Keys
If you are having problems with the keys on your laptop’s keyboard, there are a few things that could be the issue. The most likely of these is that there is debris under the key that is making it pop out of place. Clean the area underneath the key, making sure all the dust is out of the main frame of the keyboard, and then pop the key back into position.
If you find that you can’t simply pop the key back on, you can order replacement keys and put them back into their place.
SSD
Unable to connect to external devices.
Common problems regarding SSD
The most popular issues with the SSD is either running out of storage or your storage is corrupted. If you experience sluggish response times when opening applications, or booting up the laptop, your installation of Windows 10 may be corrupted, or you could have inadvertently gotten a virus. To either completely format the storage on your laptop, or to repair your installation of Windows 10, follow this guide on Microsoft’s support website. If your issue is insufficient storage, you will need to replace your SSD. The SSD in the Acer Aspire R5-471T-51UN is a M.2 slot SSD. Any SSD that fits in this socket can be used in the laptop. To replace your SSD, follow this guide.
