Faulty charging port or charger

If your charge indicator light IS NOT illuminated and your device does not power up upon pressing the power button. It is likely a faulty charger port. To determine which is faulty, use a multimeter and test for voltage at the charger plug.

If you have performed the previous test and found there to be no voltage at the plug, replace the charger with a new one from Acer’s website.

No user inputs are detected when interacting with the touchpad.

Software/Chrome operating system issue

To fix an unresponsive touchpad, you should begin by going to settings then going to touchpad and turning off the following features: tap-to-click, touchpad acceleration, and then touchpad speed.

This may get it to work again. Also, often times a simple bug within the Chromebook's OS will prevent the touchpad from working , so a hard reset may help fix this. You can do this by holding the power button and proceeding to press both the power and reset buttons at the same time to reboot and restart your device.

Touchpad residue

Dust can be a big factor in stopping response within a touchpad. A simple way to clean your touchpad is with a soft cloth wipe to remove any unwanted particles such as dust and dirt. After this, proceed to use compressed air to get within the cracks of the touchpad then spray, this should get anything underneath.

Screen shuts off during use

Chromebook tends to randomly shut off.

Cooling fan connection issue

Before the device shuts off, does it seem hot to the touch while the fan emits no sound? The cooling fan might not be turning on due to a blown motor or a disconnected fan header.

This can cause the device to shut off randomly due to overheating. If it appears that the fan header is connected properly, use this repair manual to remove and replace the cooling fan.

Heatsink residue

Does your fan seem to be running full speed most of the time or make strange noises? The heatsink fan may be clogged with dust, or the blades may be physically obstructed causing drag on the fan.

Clear the dust from the fan with compressed air, and visually inspect for any physical obstruction in the heatsink. If the problem persists, remove the heatsink and reapply the thermal compound by following our repair guide.
