Computer Doesn’t Turn On
The device does not power on or respond.
Faulty Battery
If the adapter is plugged in, and the light on the adapter is on, make sure the adapter is connected to the laptop. If the laptop only powers up when the adapter is plugged in, regardless of charging time, then the battery is faulty. To replace the battery, flip the laptop over so you can see the backside. Simultaneously press the two switches inward that release the battery and slide the battery upwards to remove the battery from the housing. To insert the new battery, simply slide the new one into the slot by putting it into place and pressing down and inward to click the clips back closed automatically.
Bad or Insufficient RAM
If your computer crashes during normal operation, crashes during memory intensive tasks, or beeps and will not boot up, this means you have bad RAM or that you do not have enough RAM. To install RAM, you need to remove the back panel by removing all the screws. Next, locate the RAM and slide the two metal retention arms outwards releasing the spring loaded RAM. The RAM will pop out allowing you to put the new RAM into the slot. Push the RAM down back into the slot until the retention arms click and lock it in place.
Computer Fails to Read CD’s or DVD’s
The device can’t read any CD’s or DVD’s.
If the device cannot read your CD’s or DVD’s when you put them in the optical drive. This means that your optical drive does not work and needs to be replaced or fixed.
Faulty Optical Drive
If your optical drive is not responding at all you can try restarting your computer and see if that fixes it, otherwise it will need to be replaced. To replace it, you take off the back panel by taking off all the screws and popping the panel off. You then slide the optical drive out of the cutout. Slide the new one into the cutout. Slide the panel back on and make sure the optical drive connects to the SATA port that is secured against the opposite side of the panel.
Disk reader is not ejecting
If the disk you put into the optical drive is not ejecting you can try ejecting it manually from the computer using Windows key + E then right clicking the CD/DVD icon and selecting eject or you can take the drive out of the computer to retrieve your disc that way.
Computer Feels Hot and Performs Poorly
During normal use, the computer randomly slows down, freezes, or reboots while the bottom is hot to the touch.
Fan is Blocked
Check to make sure the bottom of the computer where the fan is to ensure it is not blocked in any way. Ensure that there is not a buildup of dust in the fan vents. If there is, clear away any debris. Anything blocking the airflow will cause the computer to run hot and perform poorly. To clear debris, make sure the device is powered off. Remove the back screws on the back. Pop off the back panel. With a light brush or compressed air, brush or blow the fan located in the top right corner to dislodge any dust, hair, or other debris.
Fan Inadequately Cooling
If the fan is spinning slowly and doesn't have any impedance, or is simply not spinning at all you may need to replace the fan unit. To do this, unscrew all the screws on the back. Pop off the back panel. Unplug the fan and proceed to remove the unit. Put the new fan unit into place and carefully secure it with the screws making sure not to over tension the screws. Plug the fan into the motherboard.
Speakers Don’t Make Sound
The audio sounds unusual or inaudible.
Check all Peripheral Connections
Any connections to the computer may be drawing the audio away from it. Ensure no headphones or speakers are connected via wire or Bluetooth. A USB device can cause no audio emission. Unplug any USB connections.
Faulty Speakers
Check to ensure the device is not muted, some apps have their own volume controls, make sure the audio is on. If there is no audio coming from your speakers, the audio is distorted, or emitting static, you may need to replace the speaker units in the device. To do so, remove the screws on the back holding the panel on. Snap off the panel. Unplug the speaker unit from its connection to the motherboard. Unscrew at the mounts holding the speakers in place at the bottom of the device. Remove the speakers and insert the new ones. Re-fasten the new speakers by screwing the mounts back into position. Plug the speakers into the connection on the motherboard. Close the device by putting the panel back on and screw it into place.
The Screen is Cracked/Broken
The screen is black while the device is on, shows cracks in the glass, or the screen will light up but shows unusual pixels, splotches, or lines.
Loose LCD Cable
If the screen is flickering or distorted, it may be a loose LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) cable. To check this, make sure the cable is securely connected to the screen by removing the screen. To do this, you will need to remove the screws on the back. Remove the bezel around the screen with a small pry tool. Unscrew the mounting points for the LCD and remove the unit. Unplug the pin connector that connects the display. Plug the new unit in. Replace the unit and screw it in place at the mounting points. Refasten the bezel.
Display Shows Physical Damage
This could be indicated by visible cracks, black splotches or lines going vertically or horizontally across the screen when the device is powered on, or spots on the screen darker than the surrounding pixels (pressure points). A screen replacement may be a solution to those problems.
