Overheating

The phone shuts off, doesn’t unlock, or displays a notification that overheating is occurring.

Overcharging

If a charger is plugged into the phone for an excessive amount of time, it can overheat. To fix this, unplug the phone after it has fully charged. Also, if a charging cord is used that was not the one provided, that can also lead to overheating while charging. To fix this, use the charging cord provided.

Environment Temperature is Too Hot

Overheating symptoms can be caused by direct sunlight, a hot outside temperature, and the temperature exceeds past the recommended temperature range. To fix this, remove the phone from direct sunlight and close all apps.

Short Battery Life

The battery does not hold its charge or fails to charge.

Faulty Charger Cable/Adapter

The phone will not charge if the charger cable/ adapter fails to work. To ensure the charger fails to work, test it on other compatible devices. If the device fails to charge, consider buying a new charger/adapter.

Faulty Charging Port

The phone will not charge if the charging port is dirty. Confirm that the charging port is clean i.e. there are no dust particles. If there are any misaligned parts in the charging port, use the spudger to align it.

Faulty Battery

If the phone runs out of battery very quickly, the battery may have become faulty. This is a common issue with old batteries. See our guide for replacing the battery here.

Slow Interface

The phone interface is slow or unresponsive.

Broken Buttons

The buttons (Volume controls or home and back buttons) do not work or take a while to respond. To fix this, enable “one-button navigation” to easily access these items without pressing the actual buttons.

Overworked Phone

The display of the phone does not run smoothly and apps crash after a while. In this case, try replacing the display. Otherwise, make sure the phone is up to date and clear caches to make it work faster.

Bluetooth Not Connecting

Bluetooth does not function properly on device.

Device is Not Pairing

There may be an issue with the coordination, or pairing, of the two devices. To fix this,  ensure the phone and the Bluetooth device are in discovery mode. Then, refresh the available devices list by navigating to settings > connected devices > pair new device.

Music is Disabled

If music specifically is not playing on your Bluetooth device, you may have music disabled. First, ensure that there are no other devices paired with your phone. If not, then go to settings and touch Bluetooth. Then go to “paired devices” and touch the gear icon. From this location, you can ensure that the “media audio” is checked.

Calls are Disabled

If calls specifically are not playing on your Bluetooth device, you may have calls disabled. First, ensure that there aren’t other devices paired with your phone. If not, then go to settings and touch Bluetooth. Then go to “paired devices” and touch the gear icon. From this location, you can ensure that the “Phone audio” is checked.

Wi-Fi Not Connecting

The phone will not connect to Wi-Fi.

Disconnected from the Network

The phone is not recognizing the network. To fix this, try resetting the Wi-Fi connection by swiping down from the top edge of the phone.  This opens the control menu. Turn off, then turn the Wi-Fi back on.

Wi-Fi Network is not Selected

The phone has not been connected to a Wi-Fi network.  When Wi-Fi is on, the Wi-Fi in-range indicator will appear in the status bar. Go into Settings>Network & Internet> Wi-Fi switch on, touch Wi-Fi to see available networks.  Select a Wi-Fi network to connect to.

Cellular Service Not Connecting

The phone does not connect to your cell network.

Faulty Connection Software

There is an error in the programming of the phone or network. Restarting your phone will reset the connection and could resolve the issue.

Poor SIM-Card Connection

The SIM card has been shifted inside of the phone so it cannot work properly. Remove, then reinsert the SIM card to fix this issue.

Faulty Cellular Provider

If the first 2 steps do not work, contact your cellular provider since the issue may be on their end.

My phone will not let me answer calls but can make phone calls

Does anyone know where the microphone is located on this phone. I'm thinking it needs to be replaced.

You may first want to check if the filter in front of the mic is full of "pocket-dust".

I had that issue. My voice was chopped if I spoke quietly, but I could be heard and understood clearly, if I raised my voice. Like if a squelch function is present. This was fixed by gently, under a strong looking glass, removing the dust with a very thin needle, without severing the filter. Like scraping the dust off. The mic is a little to the left under the "M" in Motorola, near the charger input.
