Blender Has a Burning Smell

The blender smells like something is burning.

Stalled Blades

If the blender has not been used for more than a few days, the blade assembly can get stalled and may cause a burning smell when used. To prevent this, carefully use your hands or channel lock pliers if necessary and manually rotate the blades before use.

Old or Broken Drive Coupling

The drive coupling is the piece attached to the base of your blender that causes the blades to turn. After many uses this part may wear down and begin to slip, this could be causing the burning smell.  Find out how to easily replace the coupling by following the 51BL29 drive coupling replacement guide.

Blender is Not Operating

The blender will not operate when turned on.

Blender is Overheating

If the blender shut down during use, it is most likely is due to overheating of the circuits. To fix this, turn off the blender and let it cool down for five minutes before using again.

Old or Broken Motor

Find out how to easily replace your motor by following the 51BL29 motor replacement guide.

Faulty Power Cord

Find out how to easily replace your power cord by following the 51BL29 power cord replacement guide.

Blender is Leaking

The blender is leaking out of the bottom of the blade assembly.

Loosened Nut

If the bottom of the blender is leaking, it may be caused by a loosened nut that holds the blade assembly together. To tighten the nut, follow these steps:

1. Remove the blades by reaching inside the blender and loosening the nut on top of the blades, using pliers if necessary.

2. Carefully remove the blades from the blender.

3. Turn over the blender, exposing the bottom.

4. Grab the wheel on the bottom of the blender and pull out the axle, exposing a flat nut.

5. Tighten this nut counterclockwise to seal the bottom of the blade assembly.

6. Replace the axle into the bottom of the blender.

7. Turn the blender over and replace the blades and the nut securing them.

8. Fill the blender with water and test for leaking.

Blades are Dulled or Broken

The blades are not dicing properly.

Dulled Blades

If the blades are not dicing properly, it may be due to dulled blades. To sharpen the blades, follow these steps:

1. Remove the blades by reaching inside the blender and loosening the nut on top of the blades, using pliers if necessary.

2. Carefully remove the blades from the blender to rinse and dry them.

3. Run the edge of one of the blades on a sharpening stone, being careful to maintain the same sharp edge angle of the blade.

4. Once you have finished one side of the blade, flip it over and repeat with the other side of the blade.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for all of the blades.

6. Rinse and dry the blades and replace into blender along with the nut securing them.

Broken Blades

Carefully remove the blades by reaching inside the blender and loosening the nut on top of the blades, using pliers if necessary.

Mine has no apparent motor problems but the blade doesn't seem to engage with the motor after I tried to make nut milk (convinced by someone else that it was ok). The whole blade assembly clatters and wobbles. I can't get the blade assembly out of the glass container. If I could, would a new one be the answer? Thank you!
