Hi @geema17,

What is the full model number of the TV as found on the information label that is usually found on the back of a TV?

Does the LG logo display on startup?

Can you view the TV menu screens OK?

With the TV on with audio try shining a torch at an angle close to the screen and check if you can see any images at all.

They will be very faint so trying this in a darkened room may help to see them if they are there.

If you can see images then there is a backlight problem with the screen, either the LED backlights, the power to the backlights or maybe the mainboard signalling the backlights to be on or off. This is of course unless it is an OLED TV then there are no separate LED backlights as the screen pixels produce their own light

Full model # is: 55UK6500AUA ; purchased 5/2019

No logo is showing upon startup. We aren’t able to see anything on the screen at all; no menu, volume; nothing at all; just a blank screen. We were watching it and it just went blank without warning.

We did attempt shining a flashlight on the screen but weren’t able to see anything. Not sure if our light isn’t bright enough or what….

Bit confused.

Is there audio or not as you initially said "...audio is fine..." but now say "... no menu, volume; nothing at all; just a blank screen."?

If no audio is there a standby power light? If so is it changing colour when the TV turns on?

by

I apologize for the confusion….Yes, we have audio; my answer was referring to your question of whether or not we are able to see the menu. We are not able to see anything at all of any menu; channel info, volume info, etc.

this morning when I power on the tv, I see a slight coloring variation, but still no picture

the LVDS cable ( the one that enters the display , the one with the RED sticker on it) , you need to izolate 15 pins ( or about 1 cm of pins ) on the right side of the cable with ducktape or something like that . it will work .

What do you mean by isolate the pins? Did you just insert tape between them? Or did you separate from the ribbon cable?

by

@michaelcapraro that user is referring to a Tape-Off. Check something like this video Just make sure that you check other things (like a failed T-con board etc. as well.

This worked for me! Amazing! Really easy too once I'd seen the video from oldturkey03's comment. Thank you so much for posting this!

BRO. I made an account just to say thank you. Gonna try to narrow it down one by one now, like that Frugal Repair video that got posted. But thank you, you literally just saved a broken TV for me. Where did you find the keys that told you those were the clock ones?

by

In my case it ended up being just the twelfth trace. thanks a bunch!

If you were still able to hear thetv when this happened it can be a couple different things but usually the problem is with burned out LED's. It is a little bit of work opening up the TV to inspect and test the leds but can be done. The second issue that happens is at times the power board or LED driver board will fail. Based on the model you provided (55UK6500AUA) this is a edge lit tv with a led lightbar. From my experience it has always been this bar that goes out.

If you feel good about doing this yourself here is the link with all the parts. :) hope this was helpful and good luck ?

Hi @geema17

You didn’t say whether you tried checking with a torch for images or not.

Given that there is no picture but there is audio then if you did see images when using a torch then it could be a backlight problem or perhaps a mainboard problem. A backlight problem could be either the backlights themselves or a power board problem.

If you didn’t see any images at all when using a torch then more likely it is a mainboard problem or a power board problem.

Vague answer I know but maybe try disconnecting the power from the TV and then removing the back cover from the TV and inspecting the board for any obvious signs of component damage i.e. burnt out or heat stressed components, bulging or blown capacitors etc. After that testing of the supply voltages on the power board would be the next step.

Sorry that i can’t be more specific but it would need diagnostic testing to find out what and where the problem is.
