Background
SZ DJI Technology Co., Ltd., commonly known as DJI, is a leading manufacturer of commercial unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), popularly referred to as drones. The company is based in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China, and was founded in 2006. DJI specializes in producing civilian UAVs for various applications such as aerial videography, photography, and industrial use. In addition to drones, DJI designs and manufactures camera stabilizers, action cameras, camera gimbals, flight control systems, flight platforms, and propulsion systems.
DJI was established by Frank Wang, who initially started building and selling flight control components for the company's early prototypes from his dorm room in Hong Kong. In 2009, DJI's technology played a significant role in supporting the flight of a drone around the peak of Mount Everest. Recognizing the growing market for drones, Wang and Colin Guinn founded DJI North America in 2011 to cater to hobbyists and expand their reach in the mass-market drone sales segment. DJI achieved international commercial success with the release of its first Phantom drone model in 2013, which gained popularity due to its built-in live-streaming cameras. By 2015, DJI had become the world's largest consumer UAV company, commanding a significant market share of around 70 percent.
DJI's drones have found extensive application in the film, television, and music industries, thanks to their advanced technology and capabilities. While primarily serving civilian purposes, DJI's UAVs have also been adopted by military organizations, police forces, and, unfortunately, some non-state actors. Notably, the United States Army banned the use of DJI products for surveillance purposes; however, other branches of the U.S. military, as well as police and fire departments, continue to utilize DJI surveillance drones.
The most often replaced DJI Drone parts include the gimbal cable, landing gear, and landing gear antennas.
Identification
DJI drones can be easily identified by the distinctive DJI logo, featuring the name "DJI" in lowercase letters.
