Background

The Nintendo 3DS XL was released on July 28, 2012, in Japan, and was released on August 19, 2012, in North America. Just like its DS, DS Lite, DSi, and DSi XL predecessors, the 3DS XL features two screens and comes with a stylus to use on the touch-sensitive lower screen. The Nintendo 3DS XL has backwards compatibility with all DS games making it a great upgrade to anyone already familiar with Nintendo products.

Identification

The main defining features of the 3DS XL are the widescreen 3D upper screen, the Circle Pad analog joystick, two rear-facing cameras to capture 3D photos, and a revised layout of the Start, Select, and Power buttons.

The 3DS XL's upper screen (4.88 inches, 124mm) and lower screen (4.18 inches, 106mm) are larger compared to the 3DS. On the Nintendo 3DS XL, the headphone jack is found underneath the D-Pad, unlike the Nintendo 3DS where the headphone jack is found in the middle of the device.
