Background

The RCA CC310 Camcorder is the cheaper of two VHS camcorder models that RCA introduced in the spring of 1989. The CC310 didn't have the titler/character generator or the 2-speed operation that the more expensive model, the CC320, had.

Both cameras, however, had some innovative editing features that other cameras did not have at the time.

Some of the Editing Features Include:

  • Flying erase head to rid the tape of interference between segments
  • A microphone mixing feature, add sounds to an already recorded tape.
  • An audio/video dub to add video or audio segments to pre-recorded material.

Identification

RCA shipped the two models with two distinguishing colors. The more expensive CC320 had a dark gray plastic assembly where the user's head rests while using the camcorder. As seen in the device picture above, the CC310 shipped with a light gray or beige-looking plastic assembly where the user's head rests.
