Buzzing from the inside
The noise is not coming from the speakers; rather the device itself is buzzing.
Hard drive is vibrating against the other internals
If the tablet has taken a fall recently, it’s possible that the hard drive came loose a little bit and is now pressed up against another one of the tablet’s internals. To see if this is the case, open the device, and check the position of the hard drive (if you have a Turbo) to make sure everything is in working order.
Device does not turn on or repeatedly crashes
Pressing the power button doesn’t seem to have an effect.
Device is not charged
Sometimes, a device that hasn’t been used in a while will run out of charge on account of background applications or processes that it performs whether or not it is being used. To ensure that this is not the case, plug in the device to a 5 volt charger and leave it for 30 minutes or so. If it turns on after that, congratulations! This should be your first option because it allows you to discern right away whether or not the issue could potentially be in relation to the display.
Critical error in recent software update
Software updates can occasionally cause problems if they were interrupted while downloading or if something went wrong during installation or any number of other variables. To fix this, either try resetting the tablet (powering it off and back on again) or putting it into recovery mode and factory resetting it. A factory reset should be your last option as it will delete everything on the tablet.
Display is the problem
If you plug the charger into the tablet and the charging noise plays but nothing is shown on the tablet’s display, the issue may lie with the display. We’ve created a guide for removing the display assembly ++here.++
Battery does not hold a charge
Despite charging the device for 30min-hour(s), it dies shortly after.
Incompatible charger
Though it may be convenient to use any accessible charger in your time of need, using the wrong one can be detrimental to the Archos tablet. Normally, the Archos 101 G9 tablet can sustain a 5.5 hour battery life. If this changes, check the charger that you’re using to ensure that it’s only drawing 5 volts.
Depleted Battery Life
Before attempting to ++replace your battery on your own++, try rebooting the tablet. To do so:
- Turn off the device
- Press and hold the volume up button and power button for a few seconds
- Release the power button only when logo appears
- Keep pressing volume up button until “Recovery Mode” appears
For a hard factory reset one can:
- Navigate to the settings
- Go to “Recovery and Reset”
- Select “Reset Settings”
Storage is full
A declining battery life can be a result of full storage. When a user is constantly leaving apps running in the background and filling up their device with more apps for the device to maintain, the battery will constantly drain. Power hungry apps can be shut down by closing out of the applications after use.
Battery needs calibration
Rapidly changing battery level can indicate poor calibration. To fix this, let the device run out of charge completely, then allow it to charge all the way back to 100%. Your battery should now be calibrated properly. Note that this does not actually extend battery life, but it will make your battery stop appearing as though it depletes more rapidly than it actually does.
Speaker is making a quiet hum at all times
Device never stops making a quiet “static” noise from the speakers.
Software issue
Sometimes, this issue can be fixed by restarting the tablet.
Faulty speakers
If restarting the device doesn’t work, you may want to try replacing your speakers. You can find a guide for doing that ++here.++
The device is slow
The device takes a long time to start up, perform tasks, and load.
Lots of apps open
This tablet runs on Android Ice Cream Sandwich, which includes a section for managing recently used apps and open apps. Although sometimes apps close on their own, often, your apps are left running in the background, consuming precious CPU and RAM and slowing down your tablet. Simply press the button that looks like two rectangles on top of one another in the lower left hand corner of the device’s display, and swipe all of the apps that appear to the right to close them.
Device is running warm
If you’ve been using your device for an extended period of time or the device was left in the sun, you may notice a drop in performance, as well as the sound of a fan on the inside of the device. The back of the device may also be warm to the touch. If this happens, take a break from using the device or remove it from the sun until it is no longer warm to the touch and the fan is no longer audible. The performance should have improved.
Stock memory just isn’t fast enough for you
The Archos 101 G9 came out in 2011. Since then, we’ve grown accustomed to a certain speed in our devices and some users may be drawn to the option of replacing the hard drive in their device with a newer hard drive, or even an SSD. Although the speed boost won’t be extremely significant due to the fact that the tablet hasn’t been optimized for SSDs, the procedure should give users the little boost that they’re looking for. We’ve included a guide for removing the flash memory in your Archos 101 G9 ++here++.
Screen has unwanted pixelation/glitches or blurriness
The tablet screen continuously flickers or it is difficult to make out what is on the screen.
Device needs to be calibrated
Oftentimes, the performance of a screen is directly related to an uncalibrated device,
A properly calibrated touch screen ensures that the tablet is functioning properly. In order to calibrate the display:
- Navigate to home screen
- Press settings app
- Tap on “Repair Formatting”
- Tap on “Touch Screen Calibration”
- Place device on flat service
- Choose “Calibrate Touch Screen” and follow onscreen prompts
Software is not up to date
Software updates are periodically released for Android devices and often bring driver updates and bug fixes to ensure that everything in the device is functioning properly. It is important that your tablet is up to date as out of date video drivers can be the reason behind issues with the display.
To do so:
- Navigate to home screen
- Press settings app
- Press “About the Device”
- Select “Update”
Device Reset
Restoring the factory settings of your device allows the system to reboot to its original state. This is always a last resort considering all data will be lost from the device. So it is recommended to back up any important data so as to not lose any.
- Turn off the tablet using the power button
- Press the volume up and power button together for a few seconds
- Device will begin to display the logo. Keep pressing volume key until recovery mode begins
- Choose the following menu item: “Wipe Data/Factory Reset” (using volume keys to scroll)
- Press the power button to reboot the system
If this doesn’t work, you can replace the display yourself.
