Death Screen

A “blue screen of death” is projected on the screen, laptop crashes, or will not turn on.

Faulty Motherboard

Ensure the laptop is plugged in to the power adapter, then press the power button. If the laptop does not turn on or the “death screen” pops up, the motherboard needs replaced. Replace the motherboard by using this replacement guide.

Incompatible Downloads

Assuming the laptop is able to function adequately, navigate to your recent downloads and try uninstalling any recent downloads. Some apps are not compatible with components in certain computers. If the problem persists, consider looking into a faulty motherboard troubleshooting above.

Computer Overheating

Computer is hot to the touch, sounding of five short beeps.

Battery Overheating

Power your laptop on, operate as you would normally until the computer feels hot to the touch. If the device crashes or shuts down, do not attempt to power it on again. Doing so might cause damage to the internal components on the device. If these symptoms occur. That battery needs replaced and can be done by following this replacement guide.

Cooling Fan Malfunction

Make sure the laptop is not placed where it can not ventilate properly such as being placed on carpet, glass table, bedspread. This might make the device run hot and make it seem like the cooling fan is not functioning. The next place of interest would be the fan speed. Download a software that provides information on fan speeds and computer internal temperatures. If the fan speed is under the recommended speed that the manual suggests, the unit needs replaced. Refer to the “Cooling Fan Not Functioning”  section below.

Cooling Fan Not Functioning

You cannot hear the fan running and laptop is overheating, random shutdowns, or a burning odor and smoke coming from the laptop.

Faulty Cooling Fan

Turn the laptop on, locate the vent for the fan on the back of the laptop. Place your ear up to the vent and listen and feel for warm air to blow out. If the fan is running, you should hear or feel the air blowing out. If no air is blowing out, download and run an application such as Core Temp. This application displays a core temperature of each processor in your system along with minimum and maximum temperatures for that core processor. From the results of this application, you will learn if the fan is working properly. If temperatures are too hot, the fan needs replaced. Use this replacement guide to replace the cooling fan.

Cooling Fan Issue (Error 90B)

When you see this error pop up on your screen this means that there is a malfunction with the cooling fan in your laptop and the cooling fan needs to be replaced for the device to perform better. Use this guide to help you replace the cooling fan.

Computer Running Slow

The device is not running efficiently and runs much slower than usual. This will make it hard to accomplish simple tasks.

System Viruses and Updates

When powering on the computer immediately hit the esc key. A menu will pop up and then press the F2 key to run a system diagnosis. This will tell if your device has any viruses. Another possibility for a slow running computer is software updates.  Make sure that windows and all apps are fully downloaded and up to date. Updates could be occurring in the background. This could slow down your device significantly and even cause it to freeze.


Memory Full

If your device is running slowly it could be your device’s RAM( Random Access Memory). If your memory is low the whole device will slow down. This could occur when running multiple programs at one time that you RAM can’t handle. You should check on the status of your laptop’s memory usage. To resolve this problem, access the device’s task manager by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL. Then, under the processes tab, you will be able to view which programs that are using most of your RAM. Delete any items that may be taken excessive storage. If this does not resolve the problem, the RAM will need replaced. To replace the RAM, follow this replacement guide.



Touch pad Failure

Cursor will not move when the track pad is used.

Incorrect Touch pad settings

Open your mouse settings, open the Start menu, type ‘Control Panel’ and hit Enter and then navigate to Hardware and Sound > Mouse (Under Devices and Printers). In the Mouse Properties window, locate your touch pad settings, which is the far right tab (Hardware tab). Make sure the touch pad is activated. If touch pad is activated and still not working, the touch pad is faulty and needs replaced. Use this replacement guide to replace the touch pad.
