How to safely open up this HP AIO I have?

To start, this is an HP AIO my family has had for years. Nobody has bothered using it solely because it’s slow, since it has an HDD. I was planning on opening it to check if it had an SSD slot so I could plug in an SSD to use for speed and extra storage, however I had no clue on how to open it and ensuring the process goes well. Does anyone know how to if I can provide pictures?

@karmabad9 this one is a bit tricky since you will have to remove the stand first. Use something like this video After that its straightforward. I just repaired a couple of these. The SSD connector is on the top right corner. It's a NVMe M.2 2280 setup

I see. How would I be able to carefully remove the stand without causing damage?

@karmabad9

See p.40 of the AIO's maintenance and service guide linked in my answer below.

@karmabad9 you need to remove the two setscrews that are hidden behind the plastic cover. Right by where the stand enters the chassis. The video shows it better than the manual does.

Hi @karmabad9

Here's the maintenance and service guide, taken from this support webpage for the AIO.

Go to p.23-p.24 to view the procedure to remove/replace the HDD and SSD respectively.

1st - b4 disassemble, determine where the problem might be.

Slow boot might be a slow HDD or an HDD with errors. Google CHKDSK to see how to run that. It will clear a lot of problems. Then run SFC /scannow. Both the above must be run from a CMD prompt. SFC should be run as administrator.

Slowness when running apps might be the same issues as a slow boot, your antivirus or your internet connection - if the app uses internet.

Slowness when using a browser might be your antivirus, your old WiFi module, or your internet connection.

2nd - it is unlikely that an older system will have an "SSD slot" better known as NVMe SSD. However, you can replace the HDD drive with an SSD drive.

2nd - to disassemble, try this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMU9n2of...

3rd - if not the right one, try googling for "disassemble HP [your model #]"

Will I need to find the proper adapter to install a cloned SSD drive?

Also, it’s an HDD problem. The computer would operate on windows 11 if it had an SSD drive
